A tattoo in many cultures can denote prestige, honor or family ties. In the western world however, there are negative connotations associated with tattooed guys. Even after most stereotypes have been discarded over the past decades, tattoos still hold certain associations for society in general. If you’re thinking of getting yourself inked, then think twice before getting under the gun.
First of all, some things never change, especially around the office. While the atmosphere around the corporate office has gotten more relaxed, there are still some things most people won’t accept. Dress codes have changed, but showing off a tattoo is akin to wearing shorts or sandals. Office executives are still mainly composed of baby boomers who hold their office traditions as sacred.
Even outside the office, society still appends bad images to tattoos. You might be nicest guy on the planet, but if you have a tattoo, you’re almost immediately associated with delinquents and criminals. It doesn’t help that most delinquents and criminals have tattoos, so this image won’t go away anytime soon.
If you still feel strongly about getting some ink, then consider getting it in a place where it won’t usually be seen by others. You can dress like a corporate executive during the day, and reveal your awesome tattoos at night.
